Nasarawa United of Lafia goalkeeper, Ameh Godwin, is basking in the euphoria of his club’s promotion back to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), and declared that he sees it as due reward for his commitment to the team.
He affirmed the value of the promotion ticket after he helped them seal it with three straight victories at the Nigeria National League (NNL) Super-8 in Enugu.
Their third win was 2-1 against Sporting Supreme FC of Abuja on Wednesday at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, after which Ameh expressed delight with the achievement.
“I am very, very happy,” the agile shot-stopper beamed with sheer glee. “I don’t know what to say to show how happy I am.”
He went on to reveal more emotional dimensions to the feat, considering that he was with the club when they got relegated, and he is still part of the squad that has now taken them back to the NPFL.
Ameh expatiated: “It is wonderful for me and for this club. When I left my former club, Warri Wolves, to join this club, they were in the premier league.
“Unfortunately, they were later relegated, and I was part of that team that could not keep them in the premier league; but I am still with them.
“That is why I am so happy that I am still part of the people that have now promoted them.”
Ameh then spoke about the experience he had playing in the NNL with The Solid Miners,
and disclosed that it was like what he had previously enjoyed with other clubs that he played for in the lower division.
“It’s not a new thing to me, though, because I played at Gateway before in the NNL. I played for Delta Force. I even played for Warri Wolves when they were in the NNL before gaining promotion.
“It’s not any other big deal because I have experienced it before but, by the grace of God, I’m looking for greater things with this club.
“I pray that we win the league. I also hope to play with the national team and in Europe,” Ameh projected enthusiastically.
