General Manager of Shooting Stars Football Club of Ibadan, Rasheed Balogun believes the cancellation of the 2019/2020 Nigeria National League Season should have been a collective decision by the club owners and other major stakeholders in the league.
The NNL teams went on break since December 2019, just before the outbreak of the deadly Corona virus pandemic which put a halt to many sporting activities in the world.
However, the league organisers went ahead to cancel the 2019/2020 season without proper consultation with the major stakeholders.
Balogun, while answering questions from journalists on one of Nigeria’s top sports forum Family United by Football (FUBF) said The Nigeria Football Federation and the leadership of the Nigeria National League has the right to make a decision on bringing the NNL season to an end, but it is expected that they consult with clubs before going ahead.
” It is so disappointing that the league was cancelled abruptly without the consultation of the major stakeholders. He told FUBF
” This can only happen in a country like ours. It is the right of the leadership of the Nigeria National League to carry all club owners along.
” The clubs spends a lot of money to prepare for the league and its unbelievable that the main actors weren’t carried along when they made such decision.
” The NFF needs to put proper structure and mercenaries on ground in the NNL, if they want the league to be properly placed and probably get sponsorship soonest. He concluded.
