It was wild jubilation at the Stephen Keshi Stadium Asaba moments after the referee sounded his whistle signalling the end of the match between Kano Pillars FC and DMD FC of Maiduguri in the 2nd game of match day 2 at the ongoing NNL Super 8 Play-off.
Kano Pillars FC had just beaten hapless DMD FC by 2 goals to nil courtesy of a first half strike by Mubarak Sanni and a second half beauty by Abdullahi Haruna, the one they call Messi. Full credits must be given to the ageless Rabiu Ali for the sublime pass of an assist that led to the second goal. The CHAN Super Eagle immediately lept over the advertising board to celebrate infront of the Kano Pillars supporters club. “It is over, It is all over”, his body language suggested to this reporter.
The same line of thought was also expressed by Coach Evans Ogenyi who was very vehement in his insistence that Kano Pillars had already qualified for the premier league at the post match presser and very adamant when reminded that it was not yet uhuru.
“My last game against Katsina United is a formality. It is a friendly match to me”, Evans Ogenyi the technical adviser of Kano Pillars insisted as he addressed the press after the game.
Our Conclusion
The notion that Kano Pillars are already through to the Premier League is a big fallacy. All four teams in the Nothern Conference are still in the race to pick the promotion ticket. If Kano Pillars lost by 2-0 to Katsina United and EFCC defeats DMD by 2-0, Kano Pillars become eliminated.
Best of luck to all teams as we await the mother of all battles in the last round of matches.
