As various centers across the Federation get busy this weekend with the resumption of teams to action in the Nigeria National League (NNL), Osun United are battle-ready to play host to FC Nilayo of Abeokuta on Saturday, May 1, 2021, at the Osogbo Township Stadium.
The encounter will mark the first league game to be played at the Osogbo Township Stadium by the ‘Omoluabi Giants’ since March after the team was banished to Ilorin Stadium for its home matches, following the breach of Covid-19 protocols during its home game against Vandrezzer FC.
The effect of the banishment was seriously felt as Osun United dropped from the second position on the log of Group B1 after losing five consecutive games, two home inclusive.
This led to a two-week suspension of Coach Bright Omokaro and two of his assistants who have now been reinstated with a mandate of turning the fortune of the team around positively.
The coaching crew has however used the opportunity of a three-week mid-season break to strengthen the squad by recruiting a few players to replace those who could not meet up with the standard during the first stanza.
Speaking with the club’s Media Officer, Tajudeen Amodu in Osogbo, Head Coach Bright Omokaro said Osun fans and supporters should be expecting positive results when his boys slug it out against Nilayo on Saturday.
“We know what’s at stake and the expectations of our people. Nothing sort of victory is expected from us and we shall make it happen. We have done our best by meritoriously selecting the best legs who can give us the result and we believe are confident of victory.
“All we want is more encouragement and motivation from the management and the government as well as moral backing from our indefatigable fans and supporters who are our backbones. With this, our desire to finish on a good note will be easy,’ submitted the former Nigerian International
The ‘Omoluabi Giants’ who, after the poor run of form bounced back in their last game before the mid-season break with a goalless draw against FC Nilayo at the Moshood Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta will leave the relegation zone if they win this weekend home game against the same team.
The match kicks off at 4 pm and it’s expected to be played behind closed doors.
