Second Half substitute, Emeka Maduka scored one of the best solo goal of the season, when he produced a remarkable finish that helped Abia Comets Football Club of Umuahia, to secure a vital point on the road, with a 1-1 draw against Rovers FC of Calabar, in the 2023/24 Nigeria National League (NNL) Matchday 10 Southern Conference Group A.
The encounter which was played at the U. J Esuene Stadium, saw Comets stopped the host from breaking down the defence with one of the best defensive display. As the first half of the encounter ended in a goalless draw.
However, in the second half, it was a different atmosphere as substitute, Maduka, scored with a superb volley to beat off Rovers FC goalkeeper, Clinton Ezekiel, through John Otomewo brilliant pass to put the visitors 1-0 ahead, in the 83rd minute.
However, in the 88th minute, Jonah James had a great opportunity to double Comets’ lead, but it was saved by the the goalkeeper.
In the final eight minutes of the additional time, it brought a dramatic fashion as the Referee awarded Rovers FC a late penalty, in the 90+2 minute, as Jousha Sunday converted the spot kick as Abia Comets FC secure a vital point on the road, extending her unbeaten run to five games in a row.
With the draw, Comets maintains firth position on 14 points from 10 games.
Abia Comets FC will be playing host to Vandrezzer FC, in the next league fixture, next Saturday, in a Matchday 11 encounter,at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
