Bendel Insurance FC of Benin, midweek defeated Holly Arrows of Delta 2-0 to archive a hundred percent home win record in the current season of the Nigeria National League (NNL).
The game watched by the Governor of Edo State Mr. Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu, the Sports Minister, Sunday Dare, and NFF president Amuju Pinnick had ended goalless in the first stanza as the visiting team resisted the pressure from their host who were eager to impress their proprietors.
Insurance central defender Sunday Anyanwu on the sixth minute into the second half fired in a ferocious shot from the edge of the box to open a goal account for the Benin arsenal.
Still not comfortable with the 51-minute deadlock breaking goal of Anyawu, Insurance continued to mount pressure on the visiting Holly Arrows FC side with Zaidu Ayuba’s increased work rate at the middle until hardworking Sarki Ismael put the second thirty minutes later to take the game beyond the reach of the visitors who showed determination to snatch away point.
The introduction of Imade Osarenkhoe, Meyiwa Oritsheweyinmi, and left-back Lucky Nosa, no doubt improved the Benin arsenals’ side just as the effect of substitute Clinton Chukwudi on the other side almost neutralized Daniel Johnson’s Insurance defense wall five minutes to regulation time but thanks to goalkeeper Kolawole Oladipo whose brilliant
calculations and reaction denied the Holly Arrows away goal-scoring chances in a one-on-one situation.
The Insurance who picked away point at Abia Comets on Easter Sunday still maintain their second position on the group B log with 21 points behind leaders Remo Stars and hope to get results from their game against Gateway on Saturday. The game at Gateway FC is Insurance’s last game of the first stanza of NNL Group B 2.
