Goalkeeper Kolawole Oladipo put up an impressive performance for Bendel Insurance FC as he brilliantly saved a 77-minute spot-kick to deny Abia Comets their winning opportunity in the Nigeria National League (NNL) week 11 encounter at Umuahia Township Stadium on Easter Sunday.
The central referee had spotted a penalty kick for Daniel Johnson’s handball in the box, but goalkeeper Kolawole confidently saved the spot-kick to ensure an away point for the Benin Arsenal as the game ended in a barren draw.
The Benin Arsenal created several scoring chances good enough for Sarki Ismael and Elijah Simon to give Insurance the away win they desired in the first half and 80th minute of the game but wasted the one-on-one chances. The duo also fell for the old trick of unofficial whistle command by supporters of their opponents on two occasions which altered the pace of their attack.
Insurance however still maintains the second position on the group B2 log with 18 points and will be playing host to Holy Arrows on Wednesday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin before their last game of the first round with Gateway FC next weekend.
