Gateway United first choice goalkeeper Ibukun Araromi is now ranked the second goalkeeper with the most clean sheets in the first stanza of 2020/2021 Nigeria National League season.
Araromi Ibukun with 7 clean sheets was narrowly edged to the no 1 spot by Bankole Kayode of Remo Stars with 8 clean sheets according to the chart released by the league’s media director, Amar Ignis titled Halfway statistics NNL 2020/2021
Reacting to the impressive statistics, Araromi Ibukun thanked the coaching crew led by Hakeem Busari for believing in his ability even during a tough period, promising to do much more in the second stanza.
“I have the Almighty to thank for this feat. I took the game one after the other. I know I could do much more and I will. Well, the reward for hard work is more work cos I see this as a commendation which will spur me to get better in between the sticks”
“I cannot but thank the coaching crew led by Hakeem Busari for believing in him, even during difficult periods. I thank my teammates too. They do trust my instructions. As a goalkeeper, I see the game from the rear, and it’s easier for me to organize the defense line so as not to be badly exposed. I will do much more this second stanza”
The clean sheets were recorded against J.atete in Otu Jeremi, Delta, while the remaining six (Crown FC, Ibom Youth, Godosky, Bendel Insurance, Abia Comet, Apex Krane) were at MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto Abeokuta.
Araromi was in goal when Insurance of Benin defeated Gateway United 2-1 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on Saturday.
