Gateway United FC are set to kickoff the 2019 /2020 NNL season with a bang in their opening match against Giant Brillars of Enugu on Saturday 23rd November, 2019.
The Ogun State football outfit goes into the new season with 36 players including 11 new players and 5 developmental ones.
Out of these new players are 3 Remo Stars loanees Awoyemi Abdulraheed, Adebogun Omotayo and Ewelike Christian.
Highpoints of Gateway United’s pre-season activities were a 2-2 draw against Shooting Stars FC, 4-4 stalemate with Kwara United, all in the Governor Dapo Abiodun Preseason tournament in September, followed by a one nil win over Remo Stars and FC Nilayo on October 18th and Novemeber 8th 2019 respectively, while a 2-1 victory over Stationery Stores at Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode wrapped up preseason friendlies.
With this level of preparation, Coach Akeem Busari is confident in the ability of his players to secure the maximum three points in their season opener.
“We’ve had a thorough preparation with various preseason games which enabled us to fine tune the players as well as blend the new players with the old ones. So all we see is victory. I’m happy with the morale of the players. It’s super high. That must not be unconnected with the boost they received from the state government this morning”
“Our goal remains the same; clinching the elusive NPFL ticket. The new season gives us another opportunity to try again, so every game is important; home and away” he concluded.
