Vandrezzer Football Club will begin the 2021 Nigeria National League (NNL) on Saturday, January 30, 2021, against Delta Force FC at the Jay-Jay Okocha Stadium in Asaba.
The Lions of Naija were drawn in the Southern Conference (Group B1) alongside Shooting Stars of Ibadan, Giant Brillars of Enugu, Calabar Rovers FC of Cross River State, Dynamite FC of Edo State, Ekiti United, Stationary Stores FC of Lagos, GO Round FC of Omoku, Akajobi FC, Nilayo FC of Abeokuta, Nnewi United of Anambra and Match Day 1 opponent, Delta Force.
The draws took place at the NNL Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Friday, January 15, in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State with 46 representatives of all participating clubs in attendance.
VFC made its NNL debut in 2019 against J. Atete of Warri, Delta State in November 2019, and will be hoping to start the much anticipated 2021 season on a positive note as we return to Delta to take on Delta Force.
The 46 teams were divided into two groups; the Northern and Southern Conferences, comprising of two sub-groups of 12 twelves each, and the winner of each group at the end of the season will gain automatic promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
Team Manager Fatai Olayinka who attended the draws ceremony says the process was credible and expressed optimism that the Lions would progress from the tough group: “Most of these teams have played in the top flight and will love to return so it will be tough. But with the structures on the ground by VFC, the tactical acumen of Coach Rafael Everton, and most importantly proper organization by the NNL, we stand a great chance of qualifying for the NPFL.”
We play our eleven home games of the 2020/21 NNL season at the Agege Township Stadium, the new home of the Lions.
