Bendel Insurance FC of Benin,weekend, continued with their perfect home win record as they defeated Giant Brillars FC 2-1 in Benin to maintain second place in group B1.
The Benin Arsenal got the breakthrough shortly before the half time whistle when their defence strongman Benjamin Tanimu converted a spot kick to give his side the lead.
Insurance had laboured without a goal before Brillars defender tripped substitute Towo Eventus in their box exactly 45 minutes.
Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi got the winner for the Benin Arsenal in the 67th minute with a touch on the ball from Taiwo Oripelaye following his free kick from the right flank. It looked like an own goal as Brillars defender who tried to clear the ball off their goal mouth further directed it into the net instead,giving Insurance a 2-0 lead.
The visitors showed determination and continued to work for their consolation until they got their chance when Insurance defenders left
Matthew Idoko unmarked as he chested down a through pass from the right flank and calmly shot into the net unhindered to give Brillars the only beautiful response in the game.
Insurance still maintain the second position in group B1 with 21 points, one point behind group leaders Gateway Utd FC who also pipped their visitors Ibom Youth FC 1-0 in Abeokuta to remain top of the table.
The Benin Arsenal who just played their last home game of the first round will be playing their last game of the first round against Adoration FC in Enugu next week before the mid season break.
