Gateway United FC will kickstart its 2021/2022 Nigeria National League campaign on Saturday February 12th, 2022 against Campos FC of Owerri at MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.
In preparation for the forthcoming season, the Ogun State based team participated in the Dapo Abiodun preseason tourney, got to the final of Ogun FA Preseason tournament and played series of grade A friendlies.
The acting chief coach, Toyin Ayinla revealed to the GUFC media unit that the team is now battle ready for the first test of the season and the season at large.
“The first game is always significant. Most times, it indicates the outlook of the season, therefore, all is set to get off to flying start and consolidate on that in our subsequent games”
“The talking is better done on the pitch. When our fans see the output of our efforts through positive results, I think that speaks louder than words. We know the task before us, we are not oblivious of what is expected of us and we will do all within our capacity to attain that goal”
“Our preparation has been smooth. The players have shown the right hunger and aspiration required to have a great season. The support from the state government, the management of the club and our teeming supporter has been massive and we are ready to have a fantastic season but one game after the other. For now, our focus is the first hurdle on Saturday” he concluded.
The match is scheduled for 4pm.
Gateway United last season finished third with 37 points, thereby missed the playoff spot by a whisker in the group B2 standings.
