Gateway United suffered a 3-nil loss against Joy Cometh FC at the Agege Township Stadium, Lagos in their 2020/21 NNL season opener
As early as the 6th minute, Lucky Olowu rose highest to nod his team ahead. The visitors as a matter of urgency went in search of an equalizer and did find the net but the assistant referee somehow ruled it out for offside.
What looked like a respite came the way of Gateway United when Aderemi Yusuf was fouled in the box, penalty awarded but his effort on the spot was stopped by Majekodumi Lekan who dived to the left to do the needful.
The other half saw the introduction of Seyi Okeowo and Michael Okolo who did add spark to the team with fluidity in the middle of the park, but against the run of play, the home team found the back of the net again. Ibrahim Gbenga was just at the right spot to head in a low loose ball from close range.
The game of chances was then sealed by Lucky Olowu whose right foot connected with a cross and wrapped up the game with a brace in the 89th minute.
All efforts to get a consolation goal were all to no avail.
The Akeem Busari tutored side will now seek redemption against Crown FC on Saturday 21st February 2021.
