Former U-17 assistant coach, Nnamdi Onuigbo, has expressed optimism about Manu Garba’s capacity to assemble a competitive squad for Nigeria’s representation at the WAFU U-17 tournament in May, despite the late announcement of Garba as coach.
Onuigbo highlighted Garba’s extensive experience and track record of success with the U-17 team as key factors in his confidence.

“If there’s anybody that they should appoint with this short time to the competition, it’s an experienced coach like Manu Garba,” Onuigbo asserted.
“Manu Garba is more than qualified to do this job. He has done it many times in the past and with huge success.”
Drawing attention to Garba’s knack for talent spotting, Onuigbo noted the coach’s role in discovering some of the world’s top players during his tenure with the national team.
“Some of the best players currently playing in the world were seen and spotted by Manu Garba during his time with the national team,” he remarked.
Onuigbo emphasized that Garba’s experience and expertise make him well-equipped to handle the challenges posed by the short preparation time.
“And I think that is the best solution for the kind of problem we have,” Onuigbo stated. “The problem of the short time to prepare for the competition.
With his experience, he will be calm under this pressure and with his knowledge and good eyes for talent, he’ll be able to make quick decisions on which players can help the national team.”
Onuigbo’s endorsement underscores the belief in Garba’s ability to lead the U-17 squad effectively, instilling confidence in Nigeria’s prospects at the upcoming tournament.
