‘The New Agali’ is Olalekan Jimoh, who is over six feet tall and was the cynosure of all eyes in his side’s 3-0 spanking of fellow Lagos-based rivals, Alim City FC on Friday.
Jimoh described it as a satisfactory result for his side, but admitted he personally did not find it easy because the opposing defenders marked him toe-for-toe.
The towering hitman further disclosed that he could have been a basketball player had the facilities and money been available to him while growing up, but quickly interjected that he is happy playing football and in being likened to his coach, Agali, who is fondly called ‘Okey Banana’ by childhood pals.
Jimoh retorted: “I’m about 1.94 tall. I could have played basketball, but where I grew up, it was more of football.
“I came from a poor background, and there was no chance for me to play basketball. At the same time, I wasn’t as tall as this when I started. So, it’s a process of growing.”
He also spoke about the motivation he gets from Agali, adding: “He believes in me. That’s why he gives me the responsibility and I have chosen this as my job. That’s why I always give my best, and I am happy that my teammates also help me.”
Jimoh concluded with reflections about his side’s victory on Friday in Lagos zone one of the third-tier Nationwide League One (NLO) and stated gleefully that they got the result they worked for.
“We worked hard for it, and it was a deserved win. We thank God.
“It was a deserved win, and we tried our best. We put in a lot of work, and we got a good result at the end of the match,” the lanky lad concluded.
