NLO UPDATE: Nationwide League Top Spot Contest Will Continue Until Last Match – Abidemi

Real Sapphire FC of Lagos playmaker, Olalekan Abidemi has predicted that the race for the final top spot in the third-tier Nationwide League One (NLO) will continue to the last blast in the season.

With current leaders of Lagos Zone 1 in the contest, First Bank FC only three points ahead of his side, who have a game in hand, Abidemi believes the race will go all the way down to the wire and fancied their chances of eventually winning the race.

He, however, admitted that Real Sapphire will have to step up their effort to keep pressure off The Elephant Boys, who beat Zenith Emperor FC 12-1 on Monday, while his team struggled to defeat fourth-placed Crime Fighters FC 2-0 a few minutes later at the same venue.

“We did very well, but we lost many chances,” Abidemi recounted. “I will just say we’ll recover in our next game. I still believe we can finish first in the league.

“I believe we can still win it once we continue winning our matches. One thing I am also waiting to see is if First Bank can lose or maybe they can draw so that we can top the league.”

Although he dons the team’s number 10 jersey and is considered their key player, Abidemi stopped short of singing his praises.

“I’m just trying my best. That’s all that I can say about myself … I am just trying my best,” the youngster enthused.
