AS Racines of Lagos captain, Onyeuche Ujunwa has disclosed that he has several players that he is looking up to as his inspirations in football, but mentioned FC Barcelona of Spain’s Portuguese defender, Joao Cancelo top of the lot.

The enterprising utility player, who on Friday became the latest lad to wear Racines’ skipper’s band on a rotational basis, said his dream is to make it big playing football in Europe.
He began with his reaction to Racines’ 3-0 spanking of Alim City in Lagos zone of the Nationwide League One (NLO) and admitted that he was pleasantly surprised with the result.
“All glory to God for this victory. We didn’t expect the result, because the previous games we played, we didn’t put in much of our effort. But today, we thank God for the victory.”
Ujunwa acknowledged further that he and his teammates have found the going tough this season in Nigeria’s third-tier division, which he said is mostly due to insufficient effort from the players.
Despite the odds, though, Ujunwa is of a view that their coach, Victor Okechukwu Agali’s decision to step up his drills in training helped the squad during Friday’s game against Alim City of Agege.
“I think the NLO this season has been quite difficult for us. Because of that, in our team, we’ve been doing a lot of training and extra drills. Today, we displayed it very well. All kudos to our coach, Victor Agali, for the impact,” Ujunwa stated.
He concluded with a declaration about his role models, saying: “For now, I don’t have just one role model.
“I’m watching a lot of players, but I like the way Cancelo plays in Barcelona, and I’m shaping my game the same way. I’m aiming high to play for top clubs in Europe.”
