A well-travelled and vastly exposed midfielder, Ganiyu Abolore Mojeed, who previously played in Egypt and United Arab Enirates, has confessed that he underrated the quality of Nigeria’s Nationwide League One (NLO).

Mojeed, who has also seen action in Benin Republic, is now the captain of Lagos-based Alim City FC, but his team is struggling to stay afloat in the third-tier division.
With Alim City suffering a 3-0 loss to AS Racines in their latest match on Friday, Mojeed’s side has managed to pick only four points from eight games and lie ninth in the 11-team table.
The club’s skipper took a closer look at the Agege-based side’s performance and admitted it has not been good enough, but reckoned it is due to their debut status in the league.
“We have not been doing well,” Mojeed began, “Maybe it’s because this is our first time in the league. I think it has affected us. We need more experience. Maybe in the coming season, we’ll be better.”
He then spoke about his individual strides and confessed that he is also struggling to keep pace with surprisingly high standards in the NLO.
Mojeed added: “Personally, I think that I still have a lot to learn in this game. This is my first experience in the NLO. I have some experience generally in the game, but this is my first experience in the Nationwide League.
“I used to say it can’t be different from what I had been playing, but I’ve now seen the difference. I can see a lot of talent and a lot of challenges.
“Hopefully, next season in the NLO, or maybe NNL, I will be better. I’ve played in the Egyptian League, UAE League and in Benin Republic. Anyone who watches me will know I have experience in the game.”
Mojeed then pushed aside his personal thoughts, as he quickly ended with a word about his team’s latest defeat, but declared philosophically: “Regardless of this result for the team, we thank God for that.”
