Prolific forward Gafar Olafimihan grabbed a hat trick as Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, continued their impressive run in the Nigeria National League (NNL) 2020/21, with a 3-1 victory over FC Nilayo of Abeokuta.
Olafimihan scored as early as the second and seventh minutes before converting a penalty kick in the 46th minute to give the coach Edith Agoye tutored Warriors their eighth straight victories in as many matches.
It was the striker’s second hat trick of the campaign, having scored all the three goals in the team’s 3-0 win over Rovers of Calabar on matchday one, thus bringing his total haul so far to ten.
The Omololu Waheed-led 3SC clearly dominated the first half and were deservedly rewarded with a 3-0 first-half lead.
The Ibadan soccer lords were unlucky not to have added more in the second half, in which the visitors tried their best to curtail the Oluyole Warriors.
What could have been the Oluyole Warriors’ fourth goal was overruled by the referee as a goalscorer, Hycent Nwankegwu was adjudged to be in an offside position.
The Abeokuta-based side reduced the deficit in the 82nd minute when they were awarded a penalty kick which Kabiru Popoola converted, to end the tie 3-1 in favor of the Oluyole Warriors.
With the win, the Ibadan soccer lords thus chalked up a maximum of 24 points, having won all their eight matches so far, scoring 19 goals, conceding just two.
The team will on Saturday, confront Nnewi United in a matchday nine encounter, slated for the Rojenny Stadium.
