Losing their second game to an unexpected opponent on the back of a win in the opening fixture has slowed the pace of Iganmu FC who came into the Nationwide League One campaign with lots of energy.
The team after defeating Buruj FC 2-1, lost to Zenith Emperor FC 3-2 in a goal-rich encounter and Iganmu FC’s Mohammed Nurudeen Kola has blamed officials and time-wasting antics for the loss.
“Though it’s not the result we want, the coaches will understand where to work on in our next game. We conceded an early goal and we tried to get back into the game to get a win or draw, but due to the time and officiating was so slow. In terms of the referee issuing a card, it was like they were against us because there were some fouls and delay tactics the opponents used which cost us most of the time to get back into the game and equalize,” Kolawole said.
Kola who used to be a regular in the team before but suddenly seems like a player who has lost his setting berth at the team tried to encourage the fans and promised them victory while explaining that the choice of who starts is in the coach’s hands.
“In football, you really don’t expect to be in the starting eleven all the time, you play today and play tomorrow as it’s the coach’s decision and nothing more. I actually believe that the players on the bench are the best players for the team because they have seen the lapses and mistakes of the opponents so they need to come in and take advantage. It’s been a great privilege for me to come back into the game and prove myself,” Kolawole said.
