“It wasn’t an easy journey. We started well and ended well, even at this point we’re unbeaten and it’s a great achievement,” were the words of the general manager of Destiny Boys FC, Onadeko Adekeye as he spoke to Sports247 on his team’s success.
Been an eventful three weeks, the rush of games, lots of goals, complaints about officiating, time-wasting tactics, angered managers and players proving their points and for what it’s worth, it’s Ikorodu to the limelight- or should I say, the world?
Destiny Boys have picked the playoff tickets available from their Group in the Remo Centre of the Nationwide League One and on course to play in the Nigeria National League with just their first trial. The team did not lose a game, winning seven and playing two draws in nine games to achieve this feat.
“We want to say a very big thank you to the family of our late chairman. The elder brother has been doing wonderfully well. In terms of finance, he has been supporting the team. Also Alhaji Gafar, the Lagos State Sports Director, has been supportive and we say a very big thank you to them,” Mr Onadeko said.
Looking ahead to the playoff on Thursday 25th March 2021, the general manager had only one thing in mind, “as for Thursday, all we’re waiting to do is to take the ticket back to Ikorodu because our supporters are really waiting for us,” he said.
