Freiburgerweg FC ran out 4-1 winners over Atlantic Business FC in the opening day fixtures of the Nationwide League One Division two League and set themselves on track for a good start to the season.
Speaking to Sports247 after the game, defender of the side and last goalscorer Ubong Future told our reporters that he’s happy with the goal but wasn’t expecting it really.
“I wasn’t even expecting it (the goal) but it just happened. Before the game, I just believed in myself that if I go in, I can score a goal and that’s exactly what happened and I’m grateful and happy I added something to the team,” Ubong said.
The goal which could well be a contender for goal of the season after going in from range in what looked like a cross and then a shot together was one the player enjoyed.
“Before the ball came to me, as a right-back I looked up, saw a teammate on the far side, and wanted to cross to him. Suddenly I noticed the keeper come off his line so u changed the way I played the ball and sent it to the far post and it went in. The player I wanted to cross to was also happy,” he said.
The player expressed gratitude to the coach and team for the opportunity to play in the NLO for the first time and was happy with his performance as well.
