Fehinty Football Club of Ido Osun, Osun State on Saturday, April 24, 2021 defeated a hard fighting Ogbomoso United by two unreplied goals in the playoff final at the Osogbo Township Stadium to win the sole ticket from Osun State Centre to gain promotion to Division 1.
Two first half goals by Sunday Paul (22nd minute) and Taiwo Daniel (38th minute) were enough for “AY Boys” to silence the “Soun Sons” whose efforts, through several chances created by their mercurial midfielder and captain, Lekan Oyetunde were thwarted by Fehinty’s well-erected defensive wall marshalled by Temitope Taleeb and Adebayo Hammed while a solid rock goalkeeper, Suenu Taiwo stood tall and firm to ensure that all on-target shots ended in his gloves.
Fehinty FC who qualified from Ode Omu Centre with 15 points out of possible 18, ahead of Ojaja FC and Olansile FA took the game into their opponents’ half from the blast of the whistle and opened the score sheet with a fantastic 25-yard left volley by Paul too high for Ogbomoso United shotstopper to reach. Taiwo Daniel pounced on the defensive blunder by United to slot home the second goal from the corner kick to kill the game in the first half.
Ogbomoso United, who reached the playoff final with scintillating performance at the Osogbo Centre where they won 7 out of 8 matches made couple of changes in the second half which did not produce any tangible result as Naheem Odugbemi, Dare Oguntayo and Taiwo Daniel threatened further but couldn’t add to the two goal tally.
With the result, Fehinty have sailed through to NLO Division One, joining the likes of Hammola Int’l FC Ido Osun and Knight FC Ile Ife that will vie for promotion to the Nigeria National League (NNL) next season.
