Courtesy of a very late strike in the 90th minute from John Oyebamiji, Phil FC picked up maximum points against a resolute Liqui Moly FC in the matchday two of the Nationwide League One Division two.
Coach of Phil FC, Kayode Akeju told Sports247 reporters about his excitement even though he did not see how the goal happened.
“As regards the goals, I didn’t see how it got to the back of the net,” he said. “All I saw was the jubilation, however, I commend the effort of the goalscorer,” he added.
Lekan Ayinde opened the scoring for Phil FC in the 8th minute before Liqui Moly leveled the game two minutes after courtesy and Ijezie Anthony’s goal and three minutes after that they extended their lead through Cornelius Anthony. Lekan Ayinde however brought his side back into the game with his 2nd goal of the game and the 4th goal of the first half before a late 90minute strike from John Oyebamiji gave all three points to Phil FC.
“The game was a very good one, both sides have a good account of themselves but the better side won. We had to rest the team that started the first game yesterday and later introduced them in the second half and I believe the tactics worked well for us,” Kayode said.
The coach also added that their aim is to top their group and then qualify for the playoffs into division one of the NLO.
