Ibrahim Abdul, the President of the Weightlifting Federation of Nigeria, has urged Nigerians to be patient as the team continues to strive for more medals.
Despite securing sixteen gold medals at the ongoing African Games, Abdul expressed that the team fell short of their goal to sweep all categories.
“We are 70% into what we projected,” Abdul stated. He acknowledged that while they had high hopes, the reality of competition day can often be different. The team was particularly disappointed with their performance in the 45kg category, where they believed they could have won at least three more golds.
“Though not so happy because we know we could have won at least 3 more golds in the 45kg category but it was a bad day but that is past,” Abdul explained. He emphasized that the team is focused on improving their performance and results.
Abdul also expressed the team’s ambition to surpass their previous achievements in Morocco. “We want to make Nigeria proud and make them know that weightlifting is a national sport,” he concluded.
This statement from the President underscores the team’s commitment to excellence and their determination to bring more glory to Nigeria in the sport of weightlifting.
