Nigeria’s table tennis sensation, Taiwo Mati, Hana Goda of Egypt and Wassim Essid have been selected for the ‘With The future In Mind’ scholarship beneficiaries which is meant for young stars in Africa as revealed by ITTF Africa today.
The scholarships are intended to pave the High-Performance pathway for the selected athletes by enabling them to attend high-quality training activities and compete at the most suitable events.
The International Table Tennis Federation High Performance stated that the scholarship holders will benefit from support under three different categories of competition which are the; Paris 2024 Olympic games, Youth Athlete Development, and the Olympic Solidarity Youth Athlete Development.
In previous years, the scholarship support is intended to be a shared commitment between ITTF and Member Associations, providing the beneficiaries with the best possible opportunities to achieve their goals through identifying additional training opportunities and increasing the number of events the athlete can participate in.
MAs are encouraged to consult with ITTF High Performance in creating a yearly plan for their athlete that reflects the collaborative spirit of the scholarships.
The WTFI is a joint program of Olympic Solidarity (OS) and the ITTF and since its inception, it has been a core component of the Athletes Development Model, supporting athletes the world over in the pursuit of their Olympic Dream.
“I am very happy to benefit from the WFIM scholarship. It has helped me in my progression by affording me opportunities for training and participation in tournaments,” 2018 Hopes team colleague, current U17 world number 2 and U19 world number 4 Goda allayed.
The educational component of the scholarship program provides up-to-date and highly applicable know-how to coaches and Member Associations via modern educational methods.
Meanwhile, ‘With The Future in Mind’ is not the only initiative available to help athletes on their road to the Olympic Games; Olympic Solidarity further supports athletes through the NOC support program in achieving their Olympic dream.
Nigerian youngster Taiwo Mati has been one of the revelations at the ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Finals 2023 in Durban, South Africa.
