Nigeria set the highest tournament total, amassing 362 runs for losing eight wickets in 50 overs.
Hossana Omokhobio led the charge with a well-crafted 69 runs off 95 balls, supported by Peculiar Egamasi’s 53 runs off 48 balls and captain Gafar Kareem’s 45 runs off 32 balls. Kareem’s impactful performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
Mozambique’s response was lacklustre, collapsing under pressure and managing only 48 runs in 18.5 overs. Nigeria secured an emphatic victory by 314 runs, marking one of the most decisive wins in the tournament’s history.
Captain Gafar Kareem emphasized the team’s focus on their upcoming game against Ghana. “The plan to bat first was effective on a flat wicket, and we managed to score big runs. We have a crucial game coming up against Ghana, and we aim to carry this momentum forward,” he said.
The Junior Yellow Greens’ performance in the Division 2 qualifiers will be critical as they aim to advance to the next stage of the World Cup qualifiers.
