The Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has instructed the immediate repair and reactivation of faulty passport equipment at the Nigerian Consulates in Atlanta and New York, USA.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his spokesperson, Alao Babatunde, the Minister emphasized the directive as a response to complaints from Nigerians in the diaspora about the malfunctioning equipment.

To address the issue promptly, the Minister ordered the Nigeria Immigration Service to deploy new printers to the affected offices. These printers are already set for installation as part of a short-term solution to ease the current challenges.
The statement further revealed a long-term strategy to simplify the passport application process. This includes the activation of the Passport Personalisation Centre in Abuja, expected to commence operations in the coming weeks, and the expansion of contactless application systems to more countries.
Under the leadership of Hon. Tunji-Ojo, the Ministry of Interior is implementing significant reforms. The Nigeria Immigration Service has introduced end-to-end automation of passport applications and a contactless process, already launched in Canada.
The Minister reassures Nigerians that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is dedicated to delivering a renewed hope marked by innovation, convenience, and strengthened national security.
