The Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC) officially received the Universal Boxing Organisation (UBO) African Belt from the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA). This significant development was confirmed in a statement released by Segun Aboderin, the Secretary of NBBofC, in Lagos.
The UBO African Light-Heavyweight belt was secured by Nigeria’s Idowu “ID Buster” Idowu Rasheed after a remarkable round two knockout victory over Ghanaian boxer Bastie Samir. Despite the initial declaration of a technical draw, the intervention of the Universal Boxing Organization (UBO) championships sanctioning body and widespread publicity led to the recognition of Rasheed’s win.
In light of this reversal, the belt has been dispatched to the President of the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC), Dr. Rafiu Oladipo, for the formal decoration of Idowu Rasheed. Additionally, it has been revealed that the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, will personally decorate Rasheed in recognition of his outstanding achievement.
This recognition not only celebrates Rasheed’s victory but also highlights the importance of fair play and integrity in sports.
The gesture from Governor Makinde underscores the significance of honoring and supporting Nigerian athletes who excel on the international stage.
As preparations are underway for the ceremonial presentation, anticipation builds among sports enthusiasts eager to witness this momentous occasion.
