Led by Leke Oyede, the Female Yellow Greens commenced their campaign with a promising start, securing a draw against fierce rivals Tanzania in a rain-affected match. Despite the inconclusive third meeting between the two sides, Nigeria showed resilience in limiting Tanzania to 58 runs for the loss of three wickets in 10 overs during the first innings.
Meanwhile, Namibia currently leads the group, standing one point ahead of both Nigeria and Tanzania. Notably, the 17th-ranked team in the ICC rankings made waves by defeating the highest-ranked African team, South Africa (ranked 5), by one run via the DLS method.
In their encounter against South Africa, Namibia posted a total of 89 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs before inclement weather intervened. Despite South Africa’s efforts in the second innings, managing 29 runs for the loss of four wickets in six overs, they fell short in the application of the method designed to calculate the target score for the chasing team.
This edition of the African Games marks a historic moment as cricket returns to the continental showpiece for the first time since its inception in 1965. With the Female Yellow Greens aiming to secure a victory against Namibia, the stage is set for an intense clash as both teams vie for supremacy in the tournament.
