The team is set to clash with Tanzania in a crucial match on Sunday, with the first leg of the encounter taking place at the Azam Sports Complex in Dar es Salaam.

The squad is a blend of talent from various positions, featuring three goalkeepers, six defenders, five midfielders, and five forwards. Notably, goalkeeper Faith Omilana, who was a standout performer in Nigeria’s historic FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup bronze medal finish in India last year, is part of the roster.

Joining Omilana are fellow India 2022 star Taiwo Afolabi, defender Comfort Folorunsho, and forward Opeyemi Ajakaye, all of whom played pivotal roles in India and contributed to the Super Falcons’ recent victory over Ethiopia in a 2024 Women Olympic Football Tournament qualifying fixture.

The Nigerian team, known for its impressive performance in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, has been in rigorous training in Abuja for over two weeks to prepare for the upcoming challenge.

The match against Tanzania is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Tanzania time (1:00 p.m. Nigeria time) on Sunday.

This two-legged qualifier will also see the teams face off in a return leg at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on November 19.

The winner on aggregate will progress to the third round of the competition, taking them one step closer to the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.

For this high-stakes encounter, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed a team of officials, with Letticia Antonella Viana from e-Swatini serving as the referee, assisted by Patricia Mkhaliph, Siphiwayikhosi Nxumalo, and Nothando Nkhumane as assistant referee 1, assistant referee 2, and fourth official, respectively.

The squad for the upcoming game includes a mix of experienced players and promising talents, with Anderline Mgbechi, Shukura Bakare, and Faith Omilana as goalkeepers, and a formidable defensive and midfield lineup, as well as a group of exciting attackers.

All eyes are now on the Falconets as they gear up for this crucial showdown against Tanzania in their quest for U-20 Women’s World Cup glory.
