Nigeria’s Cricket Team Captain Sylvester Okpe Reflects On Lessons Learnt From Loss To Namibia In ICC Qualifiers

Nigeria’s cricket national team, Yellow Greens’ captain, Sylvester Okpe is reflecting on what he referred to as lessons learnt from their loss to Namibia at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup qualifiers in Harare, Zimbabwe and believes it will help them do better during their subsequent games.

Sports247 gathered that The Yellow Greens lost by 117 runs against Namibia in their second group match and, while Okpe admitted that his side showed deficiencies in many aspects of the wickets’ game, he noted that they picked valuable lessons from the defeat.

While casting a look of optimism ahead of their next game, which will be against highly-fomidable Kenya, Okpe enthused that the Nigerian players would subsequently do better in bowling and batting, as they aim to bring to bear values of the experience they gained against Namibia.

He admitted, “We faulted with our bowling, because we didn’t quite execute it the way we wanted, and that left us on the back foot.

“When the game goes like that, you start to think we should have done better. But, at the end, we consoled ourselves with the expressions that we made.”

He further pointed out that the players had extra knowledge added to their depth of the game, with a view that the lessons will be of good use to them in their subsequent matches.

“Quite a lot of us saw differences in the way we normally bowl, as we usually try to bring it back, and we try to get it more than once.

“The way we bat, I also felt there was a need to be more intent and intense than the way we went about it,” Okpe analysed in retrospect.
