Nigeria’s blind women team wins exhibition game held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
President, Bina Foundation, Lady Ifeoma Atuegwu, expressed happiness over the successful conclusion of the event.
She talks about their aim of hosting the event was to promote and develop blind football for men, women and children in Africa, adding that blind football was inaugurated in Bina Foundation in April 2017 with 120 visually impaired men.
She further said that in the spirit of gender equality, the foundation inaugurated women’s blind football in August 2017 with 30 women.
She stated, “In 2018, the project expanded to include the formation and funding of two women and five men blind football clubs, who participated in national league tournaments.
“In February 2019, some of our women players participated in the Women Blind Football Camp and Games in Japan.
The foundation established the only fully equipped Blind Football Training Academy in Nigeria, which now also serves as the national training centre for blind football.
“We are working with the Nigeria Paralympic Committee to promote our national blind football teams, the Star Eagles for men and the Star Falcons for women, to international recognition,” Ifeoma said
