Nigeria’s youngster Raphael Onyedika who plays for Danish outfit, FC Midtjylland has been named the Danish Superliga Best Young Player of the Season beating the likes of Gustav Isaksen, Brondby’s Anis Slimane, and FC Copenhagen’s Ísak Bergmann Jóhannesson to the coveted award.
The 21-year-old midfielder had an amazing season at the Danish club, filling the shoes of fellow countryman Frank Oyenka who left Midtjylland for Premier League side Brentford last summer.
Onyedika scored twice in 22 appearances and was versatile in Midtjylland’s midfield, helping the side to a Landspokal triumph and second-place finish in the just-concluded season.
Reacting to the incredible feat on the club’s website, Onyedika stated the awards meant a lot to him and he is excited about the recognition.
“It means a lot to me to get this award. It’s always nice with recognition, even if it’s the team’s performance that matters most to me. I am happy to have played so many matches and been a regular part of the team.”
” The season has gone much better than I had dared to hope for. There must be a big thank you to the coaches and my teammates who have been good at helping me so that I have always been able to improve.
“It has been the most important thing for me, and it still is. I want to get better all the time. So I keep working hard every day for training and looking at every match to see what I can do better,” he said.
