Flying Eagles forward, Emeka Chinonso makes his long-awaited debut for Belgian club, Gent in their 2-1 away win at Oostende to book a place in next season’s Europa League.
Chinonso, a product of Water FC had to wait till the last 11 minutes of the game before making his first appearance for the Gent replacing Roman Yaremchuk.
Both Bezus Roman and Tarik Tissoudali had given Gent a two-goal lead early in the second half before Verdy Druikj evened the scoreline from the spot.
The lanky forward’s presence upfront helped Gent to protect their slender lead denying Oostende to complete their comeback.
Gent will now join Club Brugge and Genk to represent Belgium in European football leagues next season.
Chinonso joined Genk with his Water FC teammate, Oladoye Adewale in January after scaling through the trials.
The 19-year Chinonso was part of the Nigeria U20 team that participated at the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup in Warsaw, Poland.
