The former Enyimba star is said to be heading to Kigali to finalize the details of a two-year contract with the club. Mbaoma, 27, previously played for Remo Stars and Akwa United before embarking on international ventures in Uzbekistan and Algeria.
Mbaoma’s talent came to prominence during his time at Enyimba FC in Nigeria, where he gained recognition for his impressive performances.
His international debut for the Super Eagles came in 2021, featuring in a 2-1 defeat to Mexico, and he also made a substitute appearance against Ecuador.
In addition to Mbaoma, APR is reportedly pursuing Cameroonian forward Apam Assongwe, while Ugandan striker Taddeo Lwanga is currently in Kigali for trial and medical assessments.
As the club aims to strengthen its squad, these potential additions highlight its ambition to compete at both domestic and continental levels.
APR, known as a military side, has enjoyed success on the domestic front, winning seven league titles and two peace cups. However, they have faced challenges in progressing to the group stages of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup in recent seasons.
Their elimination in the second round of the CAF Champions League last season and their exit in the first round in 2020 indicate their determination to make a stronger impact in future continental competitions.
With Mbaoma’s imminent arrival at APR, the club hopes to bolster its attacking prowess and elevate its performance in both domestic and international competitions.
The Nigerian striker’s experience and skillset will be crucial as the team strives for continued success in the Rwanda Premier League and beyond.
