Nigeria’s burgeoning presence in the global sports arena continues to expand as the Sambo Association of Nigeria (SAN) announces its formidable squad set to grace the 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana from March 8 to 23.

Spearheading the Nigerian contingent is seasoned athlete Jonah Kajido, whose 79kg stature epitomizes strength and determination.
Accompanying Kajido are James Chegwam (58kg), Fatima Jonah Ogbonyomi (65kg), and Charity Jatau (59kg), completing the quartet of skilled representatives handpicked by SAN Vice President, Sheriff Hammed.

With a keen eye on showcasing Nigeria’s prowess in the demonstration sport of Sambo, Hammed emphasizes the importance of strategic selection, ensuring that the nation is aptly represented on the continental stage.
“This milestone marks the inaugural inclusion of Sambo in the African Games, underscoring its rising prominence worldwide,” Hammed notes. “Nigeria, with its rich sporting heritage, must seize this opportunity to shine brightly amongst its African counterparts.”
As the athletes converge in preparatory camp, the sentiment of purpose and ambition reverberates. “We’re not merely participants; we’re ambassadors of Nigerian sportsmanship,” asserts Hammed, also serving as the joint secretary of Africa, International Association of Combative Sports (IACS). “Our presence at the Games is a testament to the growing popularity and allure of Sambo, captivating audiences globally.”
