Francis Uzoho, the Nigerian goalkeeper, has issued a heartfelt apology to Nigerian football fans for what he referred to as an “outburst of emotions” on social media during the recent international break.
Uzoho came under heavy criticism for errors leading to goals in games against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique, which frustrated fans and raised questions about his position in the Super Eagles team coached by Jose Peseiro.
The 24-year-old goalkeeper responded to the social media backlash with a Snapchat post that read, “Do it if it’s easy.” This message further angered fans, leading to even more criticism.
Recognizing his lapse in judgment, Uzoho took to his Twitter account, known as X, to publicly ask for forgiveness.
He explained that his actions were driven by frustration and emotions, and he expressed his gratitude to the fans who have supported and motivated him throughout his career.
In his statement, Uzoho stated, “It has come to my attention that my recent Snapchat post did not reflect my best behavior towards you, my loyal fans. I apologize for this, as it was not my intention to conduct myself in such a manner towards the fans who have supported and motivated me throughout my career.”
The Nigerian international, who has earned 32 caps for his country, acknowledged that criticism is a fundamental part of professional football and expressed his readiness to embrace it as a means of improvement.
“Accepting criticism is part of my job, and it is something I often welcome from people who continue to support me. I accept your criticisms with the utmost respect, understanding that you all want me to do better,” Uzoho added.
