Renowned Nigerian footballer Abubakar Lawal has been laid to rest in his hometown of Sokoto, Nigeria.

His remains were received by Dr. Engr. Mustapha Mohammed Kafar Marke, alongside his family members and well-wishers. Expressing profound sorrow over the tragic loss, Dr. Kafar Marke described Lawal as an outstanding footballer and a true ambassador of the sport.
He extended heartfelt appreciation to the embassy and all those who facilitated the return of Lawal’s body, ensuring he received a dignified burial. He also acknowledged the presence of Lawal’s close friend, who traveled to pay final respects.
Dr. Kafar Marke reassured the bereaved family of continued support, emphasizing that his efforts were on behalf of the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, FCNA, PhD.
Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to uncover the exact circumstances surrounding Lawal’s passing, with authorities committed to ensuring due process in the pursuit of justice for him and his family.
Nigerian football star Shehu Abdullahi also mourned Lawal’s demise, extending his condolences to the family, the people of Sokoto, Nigerians, and football fans worldwide.
