German Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach has expressed keen interest in signing Nigerian defender Jordan Torunarigha from Belgian club Gent.
The 25-year-old defender had an impressive campaign last season, making 45 appearances for Gent across all competitions.
Torunarigha’s journey saw him leave Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin after failing to make a significant impact. However, his outstanding performances with Gent have caught the attention of foreign clubs, and now Borussia Monchengladbach is vying for his signature.
With Swiss defender Nico Elvedi’s imminent departure, Borussia Monchengladbach is keen on bolstering its defense and sees Torunarigha as a potential addition.
Talks have already begun between the German club and Gent, and it is expected that the player could be secured at a reasonable price. An initial bid of €4 million has been tabled, although Gent has yet to respond.
Adding to the potential for this transfer is the fact that Torunarigha’s contract with Gent is set to expire at the end of the upcoming season, making him a desirable prospect for interested clubs.
Born in Germany to Nigerian parents, Torunarigha represented German youth teams at the youth level.
However, he has since pledged his allegiance to Nigeria, making him eligible to play for the Super Eagles.
The potential move to Borussia Monchengladbach could mark an exciting new chapter in Torunarigha’s career, providing him with an opportunity to showcase his talents in the Bundesliga once again, but this time as a prominent defender for a club seeking to strengthen its backline.
