Nigerian football clubs Remo Stars, Enugu Rangers, Enyimba FC, and El-Kanemi Warriors have received a significant financial boost from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) ahead of their participation in the preliminary stages of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
Each club will receive $50,000, marking a historic first in CAF’s efforts to enhance club football across the continent.

This financial support, in line with CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe’s commitment to improving club football, comes as a welcome relief to the Nigerian teams, who often face substantial financial challenges in covering the high costs associated with travel, accommodation, and logistics for continental competitions. The $50,000 is expected to significantly ease the burden on these clubs, allowing them to focus more on their performance on the pitch as they compete for a spot in the prestigious group stages of the competitions.
For Remo Stars and Enugu Rangers, this $50,000 boost could be a game-changer as they aim to make a mark in continental football. Both clubs have shown promise in domestic competitions and will now have the opportunity to elevate their status on the African stage without the financial strain that has often hampered their progress.
Enyimba FC, the most successful Nigerian club in CAF competitions, will also benefit from this financial injection. Known for their impressive performances in the Champions League, Enyimba is determined to add to their illustrious history by advancing deep into the tournament once again.
El-Kanemi Warriors, a club with a rich history but limited recent continental experience, will see this as a crucial opportunity to re-establish themselves on the African football map.
With matches in the First Preliminary Round scheduled between August 16-18 and return legs from August 23-25, 2024, this $50,000 will help ensure that Nigerian clubs are well-prepared and competitive in their pursuit of continental glory.
