The president of Nigerian Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C), Dr Rafiu Ladipo has declared that the country needs more promoters to the sport further in the professional ranks.
Though Ladipo said he was pleased with latest developments in Nigerian boxing, he stressed that more still has to be done to take the pugilists’ trade further.
Ladipo, who is also president-general of Nigerian Football Supporters Club Worldwide, added that boxing is gradually getting the attention it deserves in the country.
He enthused that the coming of a private initiative tagged ‘Rumble in the Box,’ which is set to hold in January, will put Nigerian boxing on another high level and add new dimensions to the sport.
Ladipo said: “The upcoming boxing reality show, “Rumble in the Box,’’ is an example of positive developments in the sport in Nigeria. It is good.
“I must commend Mansa Musa Promotions for the initiative to develop the youths through their hard-earned funds.
“This is what we want for boxing as we have continued to keep our doors open to promoters and sponsors of boxing.”
