Nigerian boxing stars Tunde Segun “War” Adeyemi and Ayisat Oriyomi were set to showcase their skills on an international stage this Saturday, August 3rd, in France.
Scheduled to take on French opponents Bakare Diallo and Clothilde Del Ben respectively, the highly anticipated event at Stade Coubertin in Garges-les-Gonesse, Val-d’Oise, has been postponed due to unforeseen delays in visa processing amidst the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics games.
Adeyemi, the unbeaten WABU super-lightweight champion with a record of 11-0-1 (7 KOs), was eager to continue his impressive winning streak. Known for his aggressive style and knockout power, Adeyemi has quickly made a name for himself in the super-lightweight division.
“This fight was a significant step in my career. I was looking forward to proving myself on an international level and representing Nigeria proudly,” he said.
Similarly, Ayisat Oriyomi, the national female flyweight champion with an unblemished record of 6-0-0 (4 KOs), was ready to test her mettle against Clothilde Del Ben. Oriyomi has been a dominant force in the ring, her swift movements and powerful punches earning her a reputation as a rising star in women’s boxing.
“Fighting in France was a dream come true. I have trained hard for this moment, and I am disappointed by the delay, but I remain focused and prepared for when the opportunity arises,” Oriyomi remarked.
The organizers of the event expressed their regret over the postponement but emphasized the importance of ensuring all logistical details are in place, particularly given the increased demands on immigration and travel services during the Olympics.
“The Paris 2024 Olympics have put additional strain on visa processing and other international travel logistics. We are working diligently to reschedule the event as soon as possible,” stated a spokesperson.
Despite the setback, both Nigerian champions remain optimistic. Adeyemi and Oriyomi are continuing their rigorous training routines, staying prepared for when the bout is rescheduled. Their determination reflects their commitment to their sport and their country, with both athletes expressing gratitude for the support from their fans.
“We are ready and we will be even stronger when the time comes,” Adeyemi affirmed, a sentiment echoed by Oriyomi. “Our journey doesn’t stop here; it’s just a temporary pause.”
As fans eagerly await a new date for the international contest, the resilience and dedication of these Nigerian champions continue to inspire, showcasing the spirit of perseverance in the face of unexpected challenges.
