In an interview with NationsSports, Igali shared the strategic objectives for the year, stating, “We are going to the Olympics with very high hopes of winning multiple medals.”
He highlighted key athletes like Blessing Oborodudu, Odunayo Adekuoroye, Esther Kolawole, and Mercy Genesis, expressing optimism about their potential contributions.
Despite financial constraints that have hindered the exposure of many wrestlers to international competitions, Igali remains hopeful about the prospects for the sport in Nigeria.
He acknowledged the challenges faced due to the lack of sponsorships but emphasized the federation’s determination to qualify between 4 to 8 wrestlers for the Olympics during the Africa/Oceania Olympic qualifying event in Alexandria, Egypt, in March 2024.
The NWF also aims to maintain its strong position in Africa at the Africa Games in Accra, Ghana, and endeavours to secure a notable place on the medals table at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Igali’s vision for Nigerian wrestling in 2024 reflects a commitment to excellence and the development of talent within the sport.
