Nigeria Volleyball Federation Hails Customs Boss Adewale Adeniyi on Historic WCO Council Chairmanship

The Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, following his historic election as Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council.

In a celebratory statement signed by NVBF President, Engineer Musa Nimrod, the Federation expressed confidence that Adeniyi’s leadership at the WCO will usher in a new era of innovation and global customs reform.

Engineer Nimrod praised Adeniyi for his transformative leadership at the Nigeria Customs Service, where he has made an indelible impact in just two years — surpassing revenue targets, reforming operations, and earning international acclaim.

“Your achievements in a short time are nothing short of phenomenal,” Nimrod said. “You have not only modernized customs administration but have also shown unwavering support for sports development, particularly volleyball.”

Under Adeniyi’s stewardship, the Nigeria Customs Service has emerged as a key patron of the sport. The agency not only sponsored the 2024 Volleyball League but also successfully hosted the 2025 African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship — a tournament hailed as the best in its history.

“The entire board of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation congratulates you on your well-deserved election,” the NVBF statement read. “We are confident you will exceed global expectations just as you have at home.”

Adeniyi officially assumes his new role today, July 1, 2025, taking over from Edward Kieswetter, Commissioner of the South African Revenue Service.

His appointment marks a significant milestone for Nigeria on the international stage and underscores the country’s growing influence in global governance.

As the world turns its eyes to the WCO, the NVBF and the broader sporting community in Nigeria celebrate one of their strongest allies — a man whose legacy now stretches from customs reform to championship courts.
