As the WAFU B U17 Championship winds down with the semi finals holding today, coach of the Nigerian U17 team has called on his lads to be clinical in order to calm the nerves of Nigerians back home.
Nigeria qualified for the semi finals of the competition despite picking only one point from two games in the group but having a better goal difference over bottom placed Ghana also on One point.
They face a tougher task to qualify for the finals and pick tickets to the CAF U17 Africa Cup of Nations billed to hold in Morocco later this year in March.
Coach Fatai Amoo, spoke to Sports247 and said his boys were not just lucky as many Nigerians think but they worked hard. “Everybody is entitled to his or her opinion, but of course you have to work before u talk about luck. If we had not defended well and had good defensive network against Cote d’Ivoire it would have been another story,” said the coach.
“It’s another tough battl and so far in this competition, from what I’ve seen and othe games I’ve watched, I’m rating Burkina Faso as one of the favourites. They have scored a lot of goals and it shows they are a good attacking side but that should bring the best out of us to defend well and be clinical with our chances,” Coach Fatai Amoo said.
Nigeria Vs Burkina Faso kicks off by 5pm today while the other semi final between Cote d’Ivoire and Niger Republic kicks off by 8pm.
The final will hold on Wednesday next week, 20th Jan, 2021 at the Stade Kegue, and the teams that make it to the final also pick up tickets for the CAF U17 Cup of Nations billed for 13th -31st March in Morocco.
