The Nigeria Skating Federation (NSF) is gearing up to host its first national championship in Abuja, which is expected to draw the participation of over 2000 youths.

The championship, aptly named ‘ABUJA2023,’ is scheduled to take place from November 30 to December 3, 2023, within the MKO Abiola National Stadium complex and its surroundings.
According to Major General Abdullahi Maikano, the President of Nigeria Skating Federation and also the head of the Organisation of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA), the event has already garnered interest from over 20 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), each registering for various categories of the championship.
A highlight of the event is the 42.5-kilometer Skating Marathon, which will commence from Airport Road to the City Gate in Abuja.
The Federal Road Safety Commission and other security agencies will be actively involved in monitoring the race to ensure participants’ safety and security.
General Maikano revealed that the winners of the National Skating Championship will have the honor of representing Nigeria at the upcoming World Championship in Greece.
This international exposure aims to elevate Nigeria’s presence in the global skating arena and foster greater popularity for the sport among the country’s youth and children.
Participants can look forward to a rewarding experience with awards, prizes, and trophies presented to winners in each category during the Abuja championship.
Safety measures will be a priority, with medical support and standby ambulance services available for participants.
The age limit for the event has been set at 17 years and above, with dedicated categories for children to showcase their skating skills at the championship.
General Maikano expressed excitement about the event, highlighting that previous skating events have generated enthusiasm and anticipation for the inaugural National Skating Championship.
He emphasized that these events are a testament to the commitment and hard work of Nigeria’s skating community and set the stage for a historic and memorable competition.
