This significant achievement comes on the heels of Nigeria’s stellar performance in Kigali, Rwanda, where they clinched qualification for Group III of the Davis Cup alongside Ghana.

Led by the formidable quintet of David Ekpenyong, Uche Oparaoji, Wilson Igbinovia, Peter Lawal, and Christopher Bulus, under the guidance of Coach Benson Ishicheli, Nigeria showcased its prowess on the tennis court to secure a spot in Group III.
The confirmation of Nigeria as the host nation for the Group II qualifiers means that the event will be held in the country’s capital, Abuja. The bid to host the qualifiers was submitted earlier this year, and the news of Nigeria’s successful bid was officially announced.
President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation, Engr. Ifedayo Akindoju, confirmed the hosting dates, stating that the event will take place from 15 July 2024. This declaration solidifies Nigeria’s position as the host nation for the prestigious tennis event.
The Secretary General of the Federation, Makpa Aliyu, further corroborated the news, revealing that the International Tennis Federation (ITF) officially communicated Nigeria’s hosting rights through a letter to the national body. With preparations underway, Nigeria is gearing up to welcome other nations to compete in the Davis Cup Group III qualifiers.
