The President of the Nigeria Referees Association (NRA), Sanni Zubair, and a retired FIFA-badged referee shared his optimism for the upcoming 2023/2024 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.

Zubair expressed the association’s commitment to delivering improved officiating and ensuring fairness throughout the league.
He emphasized that football enthusiasts should prepare for an exciting season filled with upsets and away victories, building on the success of the previous 2022/2023 league season.
Zubair credited this optimism to the strong support received from the newly formed League Management Company (LMC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Zubair revealed that the NRA had been diligently preparing match officials and assessors for the season. Referees were being reacquainted with the technicalities and new laws of the game to enhance their performance.
Acknowledging that human errors are inevitable, he assured that the association would strive to correct and minimize such mistakes. For obvious errors, appropriate sanctions would be imposed to maintain the integrity of the game.
Furthermore, Zubair highlighted the importance of progression in the careers of Nigerian referees, stressing the need to move through different levels of competition and dedication.
He explained that referees in Nigeria follow a structured path, starting from the national level, advancing to CAF (Confederation of African Football), and eventually aiming for FIFA recognition.

Notably, he celebrated the achievement of having a Nigerian referee officiating in the U-20 category, a significant milestone on the journey towards the elite category.
