Nigeria’s National Men’s Hockey Team qualified to the inaugural International Hockey Federation FIH Hockey5s World Cup Oman 2024 despite a 8-6 narrow loss to host Egypt in their fourth game of the African qualifiers which began on Sunday.
The team had earlier on Tuesday played out a 4-4 draw against Southern Africans; Zambia in the morning game, with the results giving them the edge over group opponents as they placed second behind Egypt.
Nigeria will once again square up against the Egyptians in the final Match on Thursday as they will observe their rest on Wednesday after two days of gruelling involvement in the game of Hockey.
If the players can put up an upset against African Hockey Powerhouse Egypt, they will be crowned Champions of the first ever African qualifiers to the FIH HOCKEY5s Mundial, but if they fail, they will be contented with picking the continent’s second available slot for their efforts.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s John Peter currently leads the scorers chart with 11 goals ahead of Egypt’s Elganaini Ahmed who has 9 and another Nigerian, Solomon Denis who clinched 7 goals so far.
